In order to signify the differences between the traditional approach of sequential engineering and the modern concurrent engineering approach, I will simulate the release of an aircraft component onto the market, and explain in detail the process. Design activity is therefore cyclic or iterative in nature, whereas analysis problem solving is primarily sequential. The solution to a design problem does not suddenly appear in a vacuum. The engineering design process is a series of steps that engineers follow to come up with a solution to a problem. Many times the solution involves designing a product (like a machine or computer code) that meets certain criteria and/or accomplishes a certain task.
